“The aim of negotiation is to satisfy the needs of the country represented without compromising those of others. You have to seek a lasting solution, maintain your interests or improve a current situation. This requires certain skills and mechanisms to be put in place. In particular, we work on verbal and non-verbal behavior. For example, I teach students to punctuate their sentences with “that makes sense” to win American approval. And I accompany the students of Kedge during simulations to observe how negotiations unfold and boost the teams. The strategies we put in place to get our expertise noticed are effective, and we regularly win awards.”
Vincent Frey, Professor of Negotiation at KEDGE Business School

Our NMUN participation
For the past 15 years, SimONU Marseille has been taking part in the NMUN (National Model United Nations) simulations in New York and Washington. NMUN was one of the first organizations to organize Model United Nations, and one of the largest, welcoming nearly 5,000 students to the New York conference.
At these conferences, held in the spring, members of the association play the role of diplomats in various United Nations committees, mobilizing their portfolio of geopolitical knowledge and their ability to debate issues of global importance.
Each year, our delegation represents an assigned country, faithfully embodying its foreign policy while respecting the principles of multilateralism. Our members work as a team to write Position Papers, prepare powerful speeches and develop effective negotiating strategies.

Our NMUN achievements
During our participation, SimONU Marseille was able to receive several awards from NMUN. These awards, given to the entire delegation, to members of specific committees and to the best Position Papers, recognize the delegates who are the most involved and committed to the diplomatic process. They acknowledge our ability to combine academic rigor, eloquence and a spirit of collaboration throughout the conference.
Our delegates distinguished themselves by contributing constructively to the debates and fostering consensus between the various delegations. Their professionalism and respect for UN diplomatic values were also recognized, illustrating their commitment to inclusive and respectful negotiations.
These awards are the fruit of the hard work and dedication of our delegates, and motivate us to continue our commitment to Model UN conferences.

Other national and international MUNs
SimONU takes part in many other international MUNs, such as the London International Model United Nations (LIMUN) and the Model United Nations Prague organized by the Prague University of Economics. These conferences bring together thousands of students from all over the world to debate on major international issues. Our members defend the positions of various states with rigor and conviction, while forging links with a dynamic student community committed to international issues.
In France, our association takes part in several MUNs organized by student associations, including AixOnu, a member of the DiploPACA network. These events provide a stimulating framework for debating major international issues, while strengthening links between student diplomatic associations in the region. We also take part in MUNs organized by other business schools, such as the Diplo'Mates MUNs, enabling us to confront our ideas with those of others while honing our negotiation, diplomacy and public speaking skills.
